FC Berna

Berna Travel

AGE: U9 - U14 (3rd through 8th grade)

DESCRIPTION:  The primary travel soccer program at FC Berna requires a higher level of interest, skill and/or commitment than recreational programs.  Participation provides more training time, greater skill development, and a more intensive competitive challenge playing games throughout the region.

COMMITMENT:  2 Season, includes Fall and Spring season, ~ 12 weeks per season

TRAINING:  Professional trainer providing 2 sessions per week, 1.5 hours per session (approx 30 hours per season)

GAMES:  10 league games per season (5 home, 5 away), coaching provided by professional trainer, away games up to ~ 1 hour drive

UNIFORM KIT:  Additional cost of approximately $120 (every 2 years), (Includes Jersey, Shorts and Socks)
Additionally player must purchase separately shinguard and soccer cleats.

QUALIFICATION:  Players are put on teams after a tryout process each spring.  Throughout the year, there is ongoing assessment, and feedback provided, to determine the rate at which each player is developing, and what program and team is appropriate for each player.  This ongoing evaluation is the primary basis for assigning existing players to teams, whereas the tryout is used to evaluate players new to the club.  Players are grouped on teams according to current similarities in skill, commitment and potential within the sport.  All players are assessed for the best fit to match their current development with similar players.

PROGRAM "LADDER" (FIT):  Players will usually enter this program from participation in Total Soccer.  Older players may also enter Berna Travel from the Total Soccer program, either by their own choice through tryouts, or also at the recommendation of a Total Soccer trainer.  Players in Berna Travel may advance to a team in the Berna Travel or Legacy Premier program.  They may also enroll in the Total Soccer program instead.

WHAT'S INCLUDED:  Professional training at practices and games, 2 seasons of league play (fall and spring), 1 tournament a soccer year, goalkeeper clinics, all additional seasonal team costs for carding, registration, fields/facilities, referees, administration.

NOT INCLUDED:  Berna Travel does not include winter training, or summer programs (clinics, camps, etc.).  These options are all available at additional cost by mutual decision of each team, or by choice of the individual player.

ADDITIONAL PROGRAMS:  Supplementary programs include skills development clinics, SAQ (Speed/Agility/Quickness), winter training, summer clinics/camps, etc.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED:  Berna Travel requires at least one volunteer Team Manager per team.  This important volunteer coordinates all the off-field tasks for the team, including communication with its trainer and opponents; game scheduling, collecting player packets for carding and league registration; representing Berna management to the team, and the team to Berna.

Each team is highly recommended to also have a volunteer with a NJYS State Certificate (formerly F Course) coaching license.  This role is not a direct coaching position, but instead assists with the team only as directed by the professional trainer (for example, if the trainer is delayed arriving for a game).  The Team Manager often also obtains a NJYS State Certificate coaching license in fulfilling both roles.

It is desirable that several volunteers occupy this role(s) over the lifetime of a team from U9 - U14.  Volunteers will be assessed by the club each year, and other volunteers may be given an opportunity to assist the team at the discretion of the club.
